St Patrick's Day, or the Feast of St Patrick, is a religious and cultural holiday for the Patron St of Ireland, held on 17 March, the traditional death date of St Patrick.
The First Day of Spring takes place when the sun crosses the celestial equator from - an imaginary line in the sky directly above the Earth's equator - from south to north. From here, the days continue to lengthen in the Northern Hemisphere as the Earth's axis begins to tilt towards the sun.
National Proposal Day falls on 20 March each year.
