10 by 10 with Fran Hopes

We take 10 minutes out of Fran’s day to find out more about her through 10 quickfire questions:

Describe yourself in three words.
Stubborn, funny, loyal.

What do you do at the CMJ and how long have you worked there?
I first joined the CMJ in 2011 and – after a short break – came back in September 2019 as Head of Marketing. My role is to bring our strategy to life via our marketing activity and brand awareness, working closely with Lauren in our small and very busy team!

What experience led you to being in the role you are in now?
My first job in the jewellery industry was on Retail Jeweller’s editorial team, where I worked from 2004 to 2009. This is where my passion for the trade was ignited, and I’ve worked in the industry almost constantly since then. I’ve just completed by CIM Level 6 Diploma in Professional Marketing so feel I’ve now officially completed the transition from editor to marketeer.

What do you like most about your job?
I like the mix of strategic planning and insight while still being hands on and supporting CMJ members on a day-to-day basis.

What’s been your most memorable moment since working at the CMJ?
Winning Service Supplier of the Year at the UK Jewellery Awards 2021 – having been in the industry for so long, to be recognised by this most prestigious event makes all our hard work worthwhile.

What do you enjoy most about working in the jewellery industry?
The incredible experiences I’ve had that I wouldn’t have had otherwise – work trips to Japan and Brazil, sailing with Dame Ellen MacArthur during Cowes Week, flying with the Blue Eagles, trying on multi-million-pound items of jewellery. I’ve also made some friends for life.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I am a total book worm, have an allotment and enjoy (and miss) travelling.

What was the last book you read?
Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

Who is your inspiration?
Having recently read the brilliant Becoming, it would have to be Michelle Obama – the ultimate working mum.

Who would be your three dream dinner party guests?
Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Theroux and James Norton.

Thank you for reading more about Fran, keep your eyes peeled for the next member of our ECOM team.
