CMJ breaks its £10k fundraising target

The Company of Master Jewellers (CMJ) has broken its fundraising target to raise £10k for Oxfam’s India Covid-19 Appeal.

The CMJ launched its fundraising appeal in early May, appealing to its members and the wider jewellery industry to donate whatever they can. The total raised currently stands at £10,141 with an additional £1,637.50 from Gift Aid.

Michael Aldridge, Chairman of the CMJ, said: “We are delighted with the response we had from across the industry – the whole jewellery trade has come together and demonstrated its generosity and willingness to help those in need.

“We would like to thank everyone who has made a donation – Oxfam will already be spending the money on those who are in such desperate need of medical equipment and help in their communities.”

Oxfam’s current charity work in India is helping the Indian government to distribute PPE to frontline health workers. It is also helping to fund oxygen cylinders and other equipment for hospitals and health centres. Oxfam is also helping on a community level, providing food, hygiene kits and handwashing facilities to the poorest and most vulnerable families.
