Ringing the changes at Jacobs the Jewellers

CMJ retailer, Jacobs the Jewellers was fully booked for re-opening after its largest store refurbishment in history.

Jacobs the Jewellers reopened on Monday 12Β April having completed the largest single set of shop enhancements in its history. A full refurbishment was carried out during early 2021’s lockdown with the results receiving a very warm welcome these past two weeks. Customers had been teased with snapshots of the soon-to-be revealed changes ahead of opening via social media and communications. Jacobs’ online booking system showed a fully booked opening day on the first day of trading post lockdown, and again on the following Saturday.

Exterior changes include a 25 feet new halo backlit sign, uplighters showcasing the fabulous King Street architecture and all new brickwork to street level, bringing Reading’s famous red brick style into focus along the full faΓ§ade of the historic building. A new security entry system making it even clearer and easier for customers completes the external improvements.

Inside two staircases have been upgraded to modern sleek glass and a brand new β€˜study’ style shop display showcases products, archive books, awards and jewellery industry paraphernalia with a β€˜lounge exhibition’ feel. An eye catching upgraded in-store TV displays current movies and messages from Jacobs and its partners. A new gold theme runs throughout the shop featuring on client desks, display cabinets and interior fittings. This all ties in with its exterior and a subtle new internal decorating theme and carpeting. The result is a warm and modern environment that evolves Jacobs shop without throwing away its historic ambience.

Adam Jacobs, partner at Jacobs the Jewellers saidΒ β€œI’m delighted with the end result and it’s given the team a real boost to return to work in such a beautiful environment. The feedback we’ve had from clients has been fabulous. They seem to be overwhelmingly pleased to be in an independent – it’s exactly what I hoped for. Moreover the shop reinforces our commitment to Reading town centre and the community we’ve served for almost 75 years. We used local firms wherever possible in this project – that’s an important part of our responsibility here too. With our website and technology infrastructure Jacobs is consistent with all our customer touch points to deliver, we hope, a welcoming and trusted customer journey wherever we meet. I’m also pleased to have been fully booked on two of the first six days post lockdown – it just shows there’s real demand for brilliant bricks and mortar retail here in Reading.”
