Simon Wilson, of StoneHawk, guest speaks at the National SaferGems Police/Industry Liaison meeting in London to discuss their #StopSmashandGrabs training and address safety and security concerns in the jewellery industry.

Now with T.H. March and Primassure insurance brokers recognition, and the training being discussed at police forces nationally, reducing the risk for retailers of a smash and grab is a reality.

Although not exhaustive, during 2017 SaferGems recorded 79 x robberies/smash & grab raids with approximately £7.9 million worth of goods being stolen. High-end watches continued to be the most sought after items. To date in 2018 SaferGems has recorded 11 x robberies/smash & grab raids with approximately £1.3 million worth of goods stolen.

The #StopSmashandGrabs course teaches:

  • Daily procedures
  • Behaviour and reaction
  • Scene preservation
  • Coping with trauma

Simon Wilson, MD of StoneHawk commented: ‘StoneHawk continues its support of retailers and the police nationally. As we see a steady increase in violence to commission smash and grab crime, I advise all jewellers to seriously consider if their staff are prepared to deal with an incident of this nature’.

The company recently received the following feedback from individuals who have attended their courses:

‘Due to the excellent skills of the trainer, and the mix of best practices and useful advice, the staff were very involved and increased their security awareness; they are also more confident in their daily routine’.

‘StoneHawk have worked closely with the insurance sector to ensure that the Stop Smash and Grabs training provided is tailored to the needs, not only of the businesses being trained, but also the needs of the insurance industry’.

StoneHawk will be at the CMJ March trade event in hall 1 stand C, to find out more about them please visit http://www.stonehawk.co.uk/
