Graff has purchased the largest uncut diamond discovered in over a century for $53m (£39m) named the Lesedi la Rona.

The Lucara Diamond Corp recovered the 1,109-carat rough diamond at the Karowe mine in Botswana nearly two years ago, with the name meaning “our light” in Tswana, the language of Botswana.

The stone failed to sell at a Sotheby’s auction in 2016 when it didn’t meet its estimate of $70+, instead it only reached $61 million.

The Lesedi la Ron has been identified by the Gemological Institute of America as possessing exceptional quality and transparency and is in the region of a 400-carat flawless diamond.
